Sedimentary sequences and tectonics of centeral 'part ofGelibolu Peninsula, Nortwest Anatolia, Turkey. Sedimentary sequence in the study area is lateral eguivalent of sedimentary sequence in Trakya Basin. The deposition of the sedimentary rocks in Trakya Basin commenced in Middle Eocene whereas in Gelibolu Peninsulastarted in Early Eocene. · The sedimentary sequence shows a characteristic transgressive-regressive cycle with shallow and deepth water sediments. There are five sedimentary sequences, which are differed from each other by disconformities, in the study area. These are: (1) Late CretaceousPaleocene sedimentary sequence without not giving outcrops at the base and ending regressively the t.op, (2) Early Eocene sedimentary sequence begining with transgression and ending with regression, (3) Middle-Late Eocene and Middle-Late Oligocene sedimentary sequence commencing with transgression and ending with regression, (4) Locally marine and terrestrial Middle-Late Miocene sedimentary sequence and, (5) Terrestrial Late Pliocene sedimentary sequence. Post Late Cretaceous-Paleocene Pre Miocene sedimentary sequence have been deposited controlling with under the influence of epirogenic events EarlyEocene sequence rest conformabl over the Late Cretaceous-Paleocent;_! sed!- Post Late Cretaceous-Paleocene Pre ~liocene sedimentary sequence have been deposited controlling with under the influence of epirogenic events Early Eocene sequence rest conformubl over the Late Cretaceous-Paleocene sedimentsforming the basement rocks of the study area. At the end of Earlg Eocene, the basin has been shallower. After a short erosion phase, marine sediments of Middle Eocene uncorformably overlied the older rock units. At the end of Oligocene the basin has charge in to land becoming shallower again. In Early Miocene, conspressional forces have dominated in the region. In Middle-Late ~liocene, the sequence showing locally marine and terrestrial feactures overlies the older sediments with an angular unconformity.
